RDU Parking Rate Change Goes into Effect

RDU Airport, NC – On Monday, Jan.16, the daily maximum rate for Raleigh-Durham International Airport’s daily parking will increase by $2 from $10 to $12. The per hour rate of $2 up to the $12 maximum remains unchanged.

RDU also offers hourly parking near the terminals for $1 per hour or $24 per 24-hour period. The rate for the airport’s Park and Ride lots remains unchanged at $6 per 24-hour period.

The increase is part of the airport’s financial plan to pay the $570 million cost of Terminal 2, related annual debt service and future renovations to Terminal 1, while maintaining its AA credit rating. The change had been planned to go into effect in 2008. However, with better than projected revenue results, the Airport Authority chose to defer the scheduled parking rate increase to a later date due to the economic downturn.

In a review of rates at airports similar to RDU in size and local passenger activity, Airport Authority staff found that daily rates for parking near the terminal range from $12 to $17 per 24-hour period.
